If you have reached this weblog then you are ready to access information regarding what is happening educationally at Birney.  This year we are diligently working to meet and exceed the standards that the great State of Georgia has outlined in the Georgia Performance Standards or GPS.  I do look forward to yet another way of communicating with you this school year.

Homework

Monday- Spelling- Write definition of words in spelling notebook.

   Reading comprehension worksheet due Wednesday.

  Reading- Read 20 minutes and write pages read on your reading record.

Tuesday- Spelling write words in a sentence correctly in spelling notebook.

   Reading- Read 20 minutes and write pages read on your reading record.

Wednesday- Turn in reading comprehension worksheet with parent's signature.

    Spelling- Write words in ABC order in spelling notebook.

    Reading- Read 20 minutes and write pages read on your reading record.

Thursday- Study spelling words for assessment on Friday.

    Reading- Read 20 minutes and write pages read on your reading record.  Write a paragraph summary of the book and parent's signature.

Friday- Turn in Reading Record with parent's signature.

Literacy Assignments- Week of 1-16-7

Reader's Workshop- We are currently working on creating flip books with various figurative language words that we have been studying this quarter.  These flip books will be due Tuesday January 23, 2007. 

Writer's Workshop- We have begun working on narrative writing and are writing our engaging the readers and organizing a narrative.  We are using The Mark Diamond approach to writing.  Please continue to encourage your students to write narratives at home using this approach.
